Each additional day I wear the Ionic I become more impressed by it. It’s funny though, in some ways it’s not ‘the best’ watch in any given segment. Meaning, it’s certainly not the ‘best’ sports/fitness smartwatch (I’d argue that’s Garmin). Nor is it the ‘best’ smartwatch (I’d argue that’s the Apple Watch). But it does seem to be the best all-around fitness leaning smartwatch. It’s got the three buttons that make fitness and sports easier, that the Apple Watch lacks. And it has the wireless music that Garmin lacks, and the same goes for having the contactless/NFC payment that Garmin currently lacks.

The Ionic looks to be a culmination of all the best parts of its fitness wearable lineup from past years, offering a beautiful design that borrows a little from the Blaze, with an improved interface and advanced software to give users the best experience possible. It has everything that you would expect from a top-tier fitness smartwatch with integrated GPS, storage for music, heart rate sensor, and a screen that is plenty bright, capable of reaching up to 1,000 nits. While this is all expected from a fitness wearable, Fitbit takes it a step further by introducing Fitbit Pay, a new service that will allow users to make payments using the device on contact-less terminals.

1. It was designed as a health and fitness watch first. The company prioritized the health and fitness features and functionality, which sets it apart from some of the competition. That said, it also works with Android, iPhone, and Windows smartphones, so you can still stay connected with notifications at your wrist.

Though Fitbit thinks of the Ionic as a fitness accessory, customers will inevitably compare it to more established smartwatch brands. And at $300, they should. Fitbit wants to distinguish itself from the bigger ecosystem of smartwatches, and with some smart health initiatives in the works, it just might—eventually. But for now, the Ionic might not want to call itself a smartwatch, but that's exactly what it is.

Fitbit is betting the Ionic's health-focused features will differentiate it from natural rivals like Apple, though Cupertino has focused more closely on health in recent years, adding significant new features to the Apple Watch. But Fitbit's Ionic will come with something special: an enhanced heart rate reader that includes a relative SpO2 sensor capable of tracking the amount of oxygen in the blood over time. Fitbit hopes this technology will eventually allow it to detect conditions such as sleep apnea, a serious disorder in which someone's breathing is interrupted while they slumber.

But Fitbit seems determined to really double down on fitness with this. Considering that most smartwatch makers haven’t been great with middling features, all while Apple was able to turn the Apple Watch a fitness watch, it’s a wise move by Fitbit. Fitbit’s “PurePulse” heart rate sensor has been upgraded, and the company says it now tracks heart rate more accurately for activities like running and cycling. A new tri-wave sensor on the bottom also tracks relative SpO2 (or oxygen saturation) to monitor oxygen levels in your blood, which the company plans to use for tracking new metrics in the future, including sleep apnea.

It’s not the Apple Watch, but it’s clear that’s not at all what Fitbit is trying to be. Ionic cuts the clutter and pares a fitness tracker down to what it should be: something with fitness-first features, and not much else.

But while the device is designed to be a capable, everyday product, what really sets it apart is a focus on fitness. All of the things you’ve loved about your OG Fitbit are there [in Fitbit Ionic], including sleep, steps and workout tracking and the challenges between you and your friends. But what is new with the Ionic? In addition to the cool design, which features the very lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum case options (very sweat-friendly, we’re told), changeable digital faces and new apps. The colours are blue-grey, with a silver grey clasp, charcoal with a smoke grey clasp, or a slate blue with a burnt orange clasp.

The Ionic offers an amazing array of functionality in a beautifully designed package. I am most impressed with the ability to use the Ionic in a range of fitness settings,” explains Rebecca Warren, Women’s Running editor-in-chief, who attended the product launch event. “It performed fantastically well in a 90-minute pool workout, including being able to use the touch screen underwater. It works well as a smartwatch too; I love the ability to go for a run and have my music, a personal coach and a credit card all on my arm, with no need to bring my phone along for the ride.

I was pleasantly surprised by my first impressions of the Flyer's sound. The bass comes across deeper and richer than in some of the other exercise-first headphones I've used, and the quality of the audio doesn't flag at high or low volume.

The Ionic includes a broader array of health tracking sensors, so it can go beyond simple heart rate tracking. The watch will be able to measure relative levels of oxygen in the blood, so it will be able to detect more kinds of health conditions in users, such as–in a feature coming down the road–sleep apnea

In a world increasingly rich in AI-based services, those with the most data to train the services win. As Amazon’s legions of customers make its Alexa assistant smarter by chatting with it, Fitbit’s multitudes of sporty users increase its fitness prowess just by moving. With its tried-and-true set of motion, heart-rate, and now blood oxygen level sensors, Fitbit’s Ionic watch could further fortify its data expertise and its lead in fitness. That distinguishes Fitbit from its me-too rivals–at least for now.

Fitbit is continuing to focus on health and wellness with the Ionic, and that's something it does better than its rivals. Plus it has an established ecosystem of products that will work well with the watch, including the newly announced Flyer wireless earphones and Aria 2 smart scale. Fitbit also unveiled a multi-year partnership with adidas to deliver an athlete-focused special edition device and training programs in 2018. At $300/£300, the Ionic is relatively affordable for all that it offers. From my time with the device so far, it appears Fitbit has succeeded in making a well-rounded smartwatch that will find a place even in today's saturated market.

Fitbit one-ups the Apple Watch with new sensors that can track blood oxygen levels over time. It also sports a heart rate sensor. The oxygen levels might be important to hardcore athletes, and it's a feature the Apple Watch doesn't yet offer.

This is my favorite tracker ever. It motivates me, it inspires me, it congratulates me and it doesn’t look like I’m wearing a radial tire on my arm.

Above all, the Alta HR is the slimmest tracker ever made with continuous heart-rate tracking. That, really, is the headline. (The original Alta didn’t have heart-rate monitoring.)

The Fitbit Alta HR is a return to the company's strongest suit, with a focus on sleep, well-being and heart health rather than all-out fitness. The improved sleep stats are a big step forward, although will require time and perseverance to really kick in with insightful stats. But the Alta HR brings high-end fitness tracking and heart rate data into a form factor that's wearable and desirable, and is one of our favourite Fitbits to date.

With the Alta HR, Fitbit updates its most stylish tracker with continuous heart rate monitoring, better battery life, and smarter sleep tracking. Fashion-conscious self-quantifiers: This may be the device you've been waiting for.

But as a stylish, wearable activity and sleep tracker, the Alta HR checks every box: week-long battery life, sleep-tracking insights, functional and fashionable design, and a useful app that recommends other workouts based on the exercise you’ve already done that week.

The Fitbit Alta HR is kind of the perfect middle ground. It has the stuff I actually want in a tracker—continuous heart rate monitoring features, and the ability to get calls, text, and calendar notifications on your wrist—but in a much smaller and more attractive wrist band.

Guess what: Fitbit's newest tracker is its best one yet. There are a lot of Fitbits to choose from, but after wearing all of them, the Fitbit Alta HR wins our vote.

With the new Alta HR ($150 to $180), Fitbit has added more detail and helpful context to its sleep tracking data. The new features, accessible via the Fitbit app, are called Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights.

But Fitbit's Alta HR provides arguably the best combination of style, comfort, necessary features, accuracy, and battery life out of any mid-range tracker currently available. For $150, you get an inoffensive design that's just customizable enough to suit most people's needs, and it's thin and light enough to comfortably wear all day and all night.

All Fitbits will offer recommendations through the Fitbit app on ways to improve sleep. For example, if you get more sleep on weekends, Fitbit might suggest that you're not getting enough during the week. Or if sleep quality improves after exercise, the app might suggest more workouts.

We'll have a full review of the Alta HR in the coming weeks, but from this first impression, this could end up being the best and most practical Fitbit of the bunch. Stay tuned.

A year after releasing the Fitbit Alta, Fitbit is ready to make your fitness wristband smarter at analyzing your sleep. Debuting with the upcoming Fitbit Alta HR are two new features to give you even more insight into your daily activities: Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights.

Alta HR will be the first Fitbit device that is able to tell you which stage of sleep you currently are in.

With the Alta HR, Fitbit is upping the value of heart-rate monitoring to include sophisticated sleep tracking.

The Fitbit Alta was a great fitness tracker, but if you wanted more features—and wanted to track your heart rate—you had to move up to the bulkier Fitbit Charge 2 or the ugly Fitbit Blaze smartwatch. Fortunately Fitbit realized that was terrible and has announced the Fitbit Alta HR, which takes everything we liked about the Fitbit Alta from last year, and adds in a continuous heart rate sensor.

Fitbit doesn’t quit. The reigning maker of fitness-tracking bands has a new band, the ultra-slim heart rate-monitoring Alta HR...Alta HR’s deeper sleep-tracking tools, more powerful fitness-tracking features, stylish new classic bands and leather options (with seven new colors in total), and seven whole days of battery life could make it the activity tracker we’ve all been waiting for.

Fitbit's next step for the line, the Alta HR, keeps that aesthetic focus but amps up its tracking power. The company's engineers shrunk its PurePulse heart monitoring tech down to a chip small enough to fit in the Alta's housing, creating what Fitbit claims is the world's slimmest wrist-based activity tracker with that capability.

The good news is that automatic workout detection should be improved by the new heart rate sensor. The small optical sensor on the inside of the device can handle continuous heart rate tracking. Interestingly, despite the added draw of the heart rate sensor, Fitbit has upped battery life projections from five days with the original Alta to seven days on the Alta HR.

Fitbit is finally delivering the heart monitoring feature that so many of its users have been demanding.

Fitbit has been working to further integrate into healthcare systems and clinical settings and to expand its role in disease management, insurance and wellness programs. Last year, it the company wooed Adam Pellegrini away from Walgreens, where he headed up digital health, to lead that effort.

The New Fitbit Alta HR Is Super Functional and Actually Cute. Get a tracker that can do all three: kill it in the office, gym, and bed.

The Fitbit Alta is about as chic as fitness trackers come. And the equally chic Alta HR ($149.95), due in April, adds continuous heart rate monitoring and better sleep tracking to the mix in order to close the gap between it and Fitbit's more hard-core offerings...the Alta HR looks like it just might hit the sweet spot between form and function.

The latest piece of hardware from Fitbit is an update to its style-conscious Alta line, now upgraded with a heart rate monitoring sensor. The Alta HR will go on sale for $150 in early April, but that's not all that's new. Every Fitbit tracker that supports sleep tracking is getting an update later this month for "Sleep Insights," a new feature that combines sleep data with your workout and weight loss info to make recommendations. Meanwhile, "Sleep Stages" adds heart rate tracking and other metrics to the usual accelerometer-based data to get a better idea of how much sleep you're really getting each night.

The original Alta was already quite svelte: it was one of the smallest fitness trackers to include a display so you could see fitness stats and smartphone notifications on your wrist. The new Alta HR does everything the original did, but adds a heart rate monitor and two more days of battery life, all in the same size gadget. That's pretty impressive.

Fitbit’s latest offering, however, welcomes some impressive updates, such as a much slimmer design. Fitbit said that when developing the Alta HR, Fitbit reduced the size and number of components needed to create the wearable by 25 percent when compared to those of the Fitbit Charge 2.

Fitbit knows that maintaining a good exercise regimen is as much about motivation as anything else. To that end, it's launching multiple updates to help you stay focused. To start, its core mobile app now has a Community area that makes it easier to keep yourself going. There's a social feed where you and your fitness-minded peers can compete, find nearby workouts, join groups and share achievements.

In additional to the new bike, Peloton also announced a partnership with Fitbit at CES. Starting now, Peloton ride metrics can now sync directly to the Fitbit app, making it easier for riders to see the impact a ride has on their stats. Nifty.

VirZOOM will integrate with Fitbit and offer a gamified VR fitness experience that is engaging and motivating for its customers to reach their fitness goals. VirZOOM VR bike play will automatically sync to Fitbit accounts, giving customers credit toward their goals and capturing workout duration, distance pedaled, calories burned and heart rate data in the Fitbit app.

With technology’s impact on the consumer health market, there has been a drive to personalize fitness for individual preferences and interests. Gone are the days of looking at your height and weight and determining what is the best program for an individual, and Fitbit’s partnerships and ‘Works With Fitbit’ definitely raises the bar for products and concepts that want to get to market.

Fitbit has always been a social app, recognizing that competition and encouragement are key to sticking with a fitness routine. In March, the app will add a new Groups tab designed to help you find like-minded folks—fellow runners, swimmers, bikers, etc. Anyone can share articles or photos to a group, and those updates will show up in a feed.

We’ve made our New Year’s resolutions, and for the most part we are looking forward to a good 2017, and hopefully, actually following through with our goals this year. For many of us, that resolution is to eat better — something that’s about to get a lot easier, with the brand new collaboration Fitbit announced today at CES 2017.

The company just announced a collaboration with Fitbit so that your fitness tracker or Aria scale can share your body weight, body fat percentage and calories burned with Habit. This partnership allows you to get more involved in your nutrition by letting you have a more in-depth look at what your body needs.

One of the reasons Fitbit trackers are so popular is that the companion app for Android and iOS is so easy to use. Its simple-yet-friendly software makes it almost too easy to see your daily and historical activity data, participate in challenges, and check in on friends' activity. Fitbit is trying to make it better still: at CES 2017, the company announced some additions to its mobile app that make it more personalized, with tailored goals and an emphasis on social aspects.

Fitbit has been rather busy lately: a few months after the announcement of second generation Fitbit devices, the company announced its acquisition of Pebble. Well, now it’s time for some software updates, it looks like. Fitbit has announced at CES 2017 that it will be adding some nifty new features to the existing Fitbit and Fitstar Personal Trainer apps as well as bringing new fitness features to the Fitbit Blaze.

VirZOOM further upped its exercise cred by announcing an integration with Fitbit, through the Works with Fitbit program. The integration means that you are given credit for your VR bike rides directly in your Fitbit app, where each session is logged as a workout, and includes duration, distance pedaled and calories burned. You can further augment the experience by wearing a heart-rate-enabled Fitbit device; if you do, the Fitbit heart rate data will also be captured in your exercise log in the Fitbit app.

The firm synonymous with fitness trackers unveiled a new partnership at CES 2017 that lets users log sessions on the VirZOOM VR bike as workouts. While you're immersed as an F1 driver, tank commander, or Pegasus, Fitbit will track these virtual excursions as if you are doing real-world training.

The new news feed in the Fitbit app will allow users to post pictures and brag about their fitness activity to friends along with notices about sponsored fitness events and tips from the company. The app already allows some contacts among friends and the average user has six friends. A widening social circle in the app helps users exercise more, according to Fitbit's data. Users who have one or more friends take an average of 700 more steps per day.

Fitbit introduced several new software and service features on Thursday in an effort to make its best-selling line of fitness trackers more popular with consumers.

The main Fitbit app is sprouting more social networking features, like a feed that mixes company-supplied and user-generated content, while the FitStar workout advisory service is getting a major overhaul. The company, which last announced new hardware in August, did not offer any new devices as part of its CES updates.

The Cardio Fitness score is based on VO2Max, a metric used to determine how much oxygen an athlete can use during exercise, and is designed to help users better track their overall heart health. This is measured using your resting heart rate, age and gender, although Fitbit recommends running with GPS enabled for at least 10 minutes for a more accurate reading.

You can view your Cardio Fitness score in the Fitbit app under the heart rate section. Fitbit will also show your score stacks up against others in your age group and provide tips on how to improve your score.

One of the best things about Fitbit is the social aspect. The platform has the largest user base and lets you compete with friends and family members in a variety of challenges, which helps keep you more motivated. Fitbit has found that users on average take 700 additional steps each day when they have friends on the platform.

The company is now looking to create a new way for friends, family members and like-minded individuals to connect on the platform. You will soon be able to post pictures, share exercises, show off achievements, and share anything else you're proud of to friends and fellow group members.

Your Fitbit is about to get better. The wearable company on Thursday here at CES announced updates for its mobile app that will add a bunch of new features to help you connect with others and better achieve your fitness goals for the new year.

The number of third-party apps and services that work with Fitbit devices is vast, and now the company added a couple more partners to its Works with Fitbit program. Fitbit announced that now its trackers can integrate and share information with the personalized nutrition and diet service Habit, the at-home biking system Peloton, and the virtual reality sports company VirZoom.

Fitbit has added a trio of niche, but intriguing, companies to its 'works with' program at CES. Starting today - 4 January - in the US, you can feed info from Habit personalised nutrition plans, Peloton indoor bikes and VirZoom VR gaming workouts into your Fitbit app.

Its open API means that Fitbit trackers already work with apps and devices such as Alexa on the Amazon Echo, Weight Watchers, Strava, NBA 2K17 and connected water bottles.

Also at CES, Peloton announced a partnership with Fitbit, the leader in the connected health and fitness market. Peloton ride metrics can now sync directly to the Fitbit app, making it easier for you to see the impact your ride has on your day and view a more complete picture of your overall health and fitness.

Fitbit’s already got some of the top-selling fitness trackers on the market, but as the space faces a potential over-saturation, continued success lies in partnerships. As such, the wearable maker’s been building up its Works With Fitbit ecosystem one piece at a time.

In the past year, Fitbit has added a couple of key partners, including a skill for Amazon Echo and an NBA 2K17 partnership that offers in-game bonuses for those who hit their goals. This year at CES, the company is rolling out a trio of additions, including a nutrition site and two fairly unique takes on the stationary bike.

We thought that gamifying fitness was a nice idea when we tried it back in 2015, but Fitbit makes it possible to incorporate it into your regular routine. The device will not only capture and log your workout duration, distance pedaled and calories, but also sync it to your Fitbit account and give you credit toward your goals.

The Fitbit Charge 2...it's got a leg up on fitness tracking thanks to the VO2 Max data. The Fitbit Charge 2 main menu shows your steps taken, floors climbed, distance traveled, calories burned, heart rate and real-time exercise stats on your wrist. Tapping around the tracker's screen on the actual band or the body of the tracker - because it's not a touchscreen - will bring up the different stats.

The Charge 2 really is an outstanding little gadget. Over the years, Fitbit has refined, refined, refined, and the result is a truly together, polished, accurate little device.

If you want a fitness band with pulse tracking and a screen—but don’t want the expense, bulk, and short battery life of a smartwatch—the Charge 2 remains at the top of the heap... And with its better looks and bigger screen, the Charge 2 is even more convincing as one of the most satisfying health gadgets you can strap on your wrist.

Something that often gets overlooked in the ultra-competitive fitness tracker market is the ecosystem that it’s tied to, and Fitbit shines with their excellent app. Navigating through the clean, simple layout is intuitive enough for you to pick up with ease. A quick glance at the dashboard will give you all the important stats that you’ll need. And for those of you looking to dig a little deeper, you can find more in-depth breakdowns with just a few taps in easily digestible charts and tables.

The Charge 2 checks all the boxes of what you want in a solid fitness tracker...I would say it’s now the best fitness tracker for the money on the market, and if you just want a fitness tracker, this is the one you should buy.

The Fitbit Charge 2 brings some much-needed updates to the popular Charge HR. It can now track your distance by tapping your phone's GPS for more accurate pace info and will automatically detect that you're working out after 15 minutes. It also has new modes to analyze activities such as weights and interval training, as well as biking and running. Plus, its bigger screen means you can see more stats at a glance. Even though it still has a bland design as well as a poorly implemented meditation feature, the Charge 2 is nonetheless a solid successor to what was previously our favorite activity tracker.

The Charge 2 combines a lot of useful features into one device that has a decent $150 price tag. If Fitbit had added any other feature to the Charge 2, such as onboard GPS, its price would have immediately gone up, and the increased power consumption may have necessitated a larger battery. In that respect, I commend Fitbit for packing in as many crucial features to the Charge 2 as it could before a price or size bump would have been required.

The Charge 2 doesn’t have the Blaze’s colorful screen and doesn’t look like a watch, but that’s a good thing—and you can still see call, text, and calendar alerts on the large new display. Plus, the Charge 2 is $50 cheaper than the Blaze. Compared to the rest of the Fitbit lineup, it’s clearly the best of the bunch...Fitbit Charge 2 proves that Fitbit is paying attention to what its customers want.

In 2016, you buy a fitness band for its app and software. Fitbit does what it does so well and so simply, and across enough platforms and phones and social networks, that it wins out as a platform of choice.

And the best overall Fitbit hardware you can get right now? That's the new Charge 2...It's the follow-up to our previous favorite, the Charge HR. The Charge 2 is a slight redesign, with a few new features. I still don't think anything else nails the combination of app, feature set and functional, affordable design like it does.

As a satisfied owner of the original Fitbit Charge HR, I didn’t think I’d need to upgrade to the Charge. But after a week of using it, I’m sold... At $149, it’s a good value, considering smartwatches that do a bit more cost significantly more, and cheaper bands lack the build quality and heart rate monitor. Plus, from personal experience, Fitbit’s customer support is top notch.

The Fitbit Charge 2 is the best new fitness tracker we've tested in some time. It automatically tracks your calories burned, distance traveled, heart rate, steps, and sleep, and a new mode helps you return your breathing to normal after a workout. There's no built-in GPS, but you can connect your phone to help capture running routes and calculate lap splits. And the display is modular, so you can pop it out and place it in a variety of different bands. Basically, it does everything the Fitbit Charge HR could do, with more features and an improved design. It offers the best balance of comfort and functionality you'll find in this price range, making it our new Editors' Choice for midrange fitness trackers.

The new Charge 2 fitness tracker ($150) is the best Fitbit device I've ever tested, and I’ve used every one of the company's products (except for its very first tracker). I'll even take that a step further: Backed by Fitbit's easy-to-use mobile app and opt-in leaderboard, Charge 2 is the best fitness-focused, non-smartwatch wearable you can buy right now.

Fitbit’s new Charge 2 is a modest refresh that brings much-needed capabilities like a larger screen to the company’s flagship wristband. For those seeking a basic tracker that goes beyond simply measuring steps, the Charge 2 is among the best options available. Thanks in part to the new Cardio Fitness Level feature, it’s better able to help users make sense of the data it gathers.

The Charge 2 feels like something between a casual fitness tracker and a dedicated sports watch. It boasts more fitness tracking capabilities than wearables like the Apple Watch.

When you think of fitness tracking, one of the first products that likely comes to mind is Fitbit. Fitbit fans, rejoice: The wearable tech pros just announced a batch of new ways to track your activity, from updated models to cool new challenges. New to the Fitbit family are the Charge 2 and the Flex 2, trendy new designs and software updates for the Alta and the Blaze, and Fitbit Adventures on the app, which presents a fun new way to count those steps.

Fitbit wants to help you exercise more by making you think you're hiking famous trails instead of strolling around your neighborhood.

The feature tracks the distance you've walked or run and maps it against actual trails, starting with three at Yosemite National Park in California. The Fitbit app will unlock badge-like images of trail landmarks — say, a scenic waterfall at mile 5 — as you progress. Other rewards include "fun facts" and health tips along the way. Fitbit will add other destinations, including the ability to "run" the course of the New York City Marathon.

With its new Fitbit Charge 2—one of two fitness bands it's announcing today—Fitbit aims to let health-minded people get the benefits of such an assessment without feeling the pain even once. A feature called Cardio Fitness Level calculates a VO2 max equivalent by monitoring your heart rate during exercise and then combining that data with other information Fitbit knows about you, such as your weight.

The Fitbit Flex 2 just might be the most stylish Fitbit we have seen to date.

It's also the company's first waterproof tracker, and the latest in an already large lineup of products that includes the Fitbit Blaze, Alta and newly announced Charge 2.

The Flex 2 is 30 percent smaller than its predecessor, the Fitbit Flex. It's slim, discreet and has long battery life (up to five days).

Fitbit continues to do the best job (by far) of making activity tracking easy for consumers. It provides the best social community and leaderboard experience. And Fitbit offers a wide range of affordable, and increasingly attractive, devices. For these reasons, along with the previously mentioned new fitness features, Charge 2 and Flex 2 should help Fitbit remain competitive.

The fashionable fitness tracker revolution is officially here, bringing us several ways to up our arm-candy game while still tracking our steps. ... [and] this week, Fitbit, a leading maker of wearables, unveiled cool new designs.

The company is partnering with Public School, Vera Wang, and Tory Burch to create a line of trackers exclusively for New York Fashion Week. (Fact: NYFW requires a lot of running around). The Public School tracker, which we first saw a peek of in February during NYFW, features thick braided black nylon and gunmetal hardware (see below, left). A good fitness band is a delicate balance between minimalism and the latest features. Too few and you get lost in the noise. Too many and you might as well be selling a smartwatch. Fitbit’s done a pretty solid job walking that line here.

At $150, the price is right. Charge 2 is a pretty comprehensive offering when coupled with the Fitbit app. It’s a sufficiently straightforward presentation that offers a quick and straightforward way for people to push themselves a little harder.

The Fitbit Blaze has a modern, techy look, it is lightweight and only a few millimeters thick, the display is vivid and colorful, and it has been a real pleasure to wear it 24/7 during my testing period. Several people have seen it on my wrist and have been impressed by the functionality I have showed them. Fitbit has a real winner here with the Fitbit Blaze and if you are an active consumer I highly recommend you consider it.

It's not surprising that as [activity trackers] public profile has grown, so have the number of researchers using them in clinical trials. We did a search of ClinicalTrials.gov for "Fitbit" -- just one of the activity trackers out there, but one of the most popular and high profile -- and found a surprising number of in-progress trials.

In some of these, the Fitbit device is the intervention being tested. In others, it's an outcome measure in use by both the intervention and control group. And the trials deal with a wide range of health conditions, including diabetes, cancer, cystic fibrosis and arthritis.

“I think the steps are super fun because it kind of motivates you to up your steps each day,” the brand spokeswoman explains. “The sleep is actually really interesting to me, and that’s really exciting because when you kind of look each night and see how you slept, you can kind of gauge what you need to do for the next night or something like that to make you sleep better, stuff like that. So it’s kind of a little bit of a, like a little challenge: What can I do to make me sleep better? And then also, I mean, just the calories, as well, counting calories. I mean, I love it all really.”

I'm a Fitbit-aholic: I've gotten 10,000 steps every day so far this year. And while that may sound like a humblebrag, I can assure you it's not.

I hit 10K every day because I don't have much of a choice. I live 2.5 miles from my office, which is a 20-minute drive, a 30-minute subway ride, or a 45-minute walk away.

Overall, I was very pleased with the Fitbit Blaze and it’s performance. Autotracking is generally reliable. FitStar is a really solid “personal trainer.” And you get alerts on the device, negating the need for a separate smartwatch; if the available options for notifications works for you. Fitbit has finally nailed fitness band design. The Blaze, Surge, and even Charge HR are bulky and look ridiculous on those of us with petite wrists. The Alta looks just as good on my friend’s 6’4“ fiancé as on 5’3” me. That versatility is difficult to come by.

I thought the Blaze was very comfortable to wear and easy to use. The Classic Band stayed in place and the leather band gave the Blaze a very dressy look...I’m not a huge exerciser, but I do walk a lot, and it’s great to have my steps counted so accurately. The Blaze never failed to find and pair to my phone after the initial pairing. Notifications from the phone were fast and unobtrusive. The Blaze is almost the same size as my Apple Watch, but it seems thinner on my wrist, and I didn’t have a problem wearing it for days at a time.

If you're set on a fitness tracker that also has the ability to host apps and comes with a GPS, you should look elsewhere. But if you want an easy to use watch to help monitor your overall health (and do some other neat things) the Blaze is a really good option.

This slim and refined fitness tracker wristband looks like something that came out of a minimalist architect's opus of prized works, and you can switch out accessory bands (metal, leather, or classic) to match your personal fitness tracker style.

But just because it's a fashionable fitness tracker doesn't mean you should underestimate the power of this wristband. Fitbit Alta doles out all-day activity stats on a crisp and clear OLED display and sends you reminders throughout the day to make sure you stay active. (Tech junkies will love that these tiny but mighty fitness trackers keep call, text, and calendar notifications a'comin'). Come bedtime, it will automatically track your sleep; in the a.m., a vibrating alarm will melt you out of snooze mode in a non-jarring manner.

The Alta shows Fitbit has learned enough about design to compete with more stylish rivals. It's also a lesson in how fewer features can sometimes lead to a better product.

The best thing about the Alta is that it doesn't look anything like Fitbit's last few generations of wristbands. Gone are the wide straps, chunky builds and thin displays. Instead, the Alta is dominated by a large, touch-sensitive OLED screen. It has a sleek metallic core unit and its straps are all much thinner. It's still obvious you're wearing a fitness band, but at least it doesn't look like a low-budget-sci-fi movie prop.

If you’re in the market for an affordable, attractive fitness tracker that can handle the basics with little to no problems at all, you should buy the Fitbit Alta. Considering the company has been focusing mostly on features for the past few years, this is definitely a breath of fresh air in terms of aesthetics. It’s not the most powerful fitness tracker out there, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s comfortable, easy to use, inexpensive, and looks good while doing it.

We want a wearable that accurately tracks our steps and our sleep; counts the stairs we’ve climbed; monitors our heart rate; reminds us to move around for a couple of minutes after we’ve been sitting for too long, and notifies us (with vibrations and screen messages) of incoming calls, text messages, and calendar appointments. We want a great app that presents all our health stats clearly and flexibly. Oh, and we want to be able to share our stats with friends and family from that app, because competition is a great motivator.

Fitbit’s new Alta band doesn’t offer all of that — no band does. It does, however, strike a new spot on the features spectrum, one that no fitness band has ever hit before.

Fitbit has tapped the duo behind Public School to elevate the design of its fitness trackers. Since hitting the market, the wristband health devices definitely haven't been known for enhancing style, but if anyone can change that it's Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne.

The coveted New York brand will be upgrading the Fitbit Alta, a slim cuff with interchangeable wristbands that the company recently introduced. The first Public School design will be debuted during its Fall/Winter 2016 show this weekend at New York Fashion Week.

The Alta is light on new features, but that’s not the play here — Fitbit is trying to create a more fashion-forward wearable for its team of designers (and Tory Burch) to play around with, and it looks like they’ve had some success.

At first blush, the Alta is just a sleeker, more refined version of the Fitbit Flex. The unit itself is made of stainless steel and has an OLED touch display that can be used to view fitness stats and the time. Like the Flex, the unit is small and nested into an interchangeable band, with Fitbit likely banking on users seeing the Alta as a seasonal fashion statement in addition to a fitness tracker. They had some pretty terrific band designs for the Flex, so we figure it’s a pretty safe bet that will continue with the Alta.

Fitbit is kind of the OG of the fitness tracker world, yet they’re still doing some pretty cool, innovative things. Last month at CES, they unveiled the Fitbit Blaze, the fitness watch that will rival the Apple Watch. This morning, Fitbit officially announced the launch of their brand-new wearable, and it’s their most stylish effort yet. Meet the Alta ($130), a slim activity tracking bangle that would be a welcome addition to any arm party.

After looking at all this, it seems the Fitbit Blaze is a perfect blend of the original Fitbit and the Apple iWatch. It gives you access to the most-used functions on your smartphone, but in a more streamlined, fitness-centric package. The idea is that those who buy wearables are more often looking for the fitness/health component than a smaller version of their phone. In that way, I think it's safe to say the Blaze bests the Apple Watch in the fitness tracker market, especially because of its flexible wearability and its much lower price tag.

In addition, the Blaze boasts enhanced fitness features such as the Fitbit's FitStar app, which features on-screen workouts, as well as Connected GPS, PurePulse heart rate tracking, and SmartTrack automatic exercise recognition to help users stay motivated.

Like the entire Fitbit product line, the Blaze is first focused on health tracking; you won't find third-party apps on this watch although you can see incoming messages and calls from your phone. Blaze has an integrated heart rate sensor for continuous, automatic tracking, for example and monitors daily steps, distance, calories burned, floors climbed and active minutes.

To learn more about their performance, we added some elements to our standard fitness-tracker test protocol. The result: Both the Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge passed our tests handily, accurately recording heart rates at everything from a leisurely walk up to a fast run.

The thing is, our early look at the Blaze, which goes on sale this spring, is promising. The device gets a color touchscreen, with three side buttons to control it, mounted on a slim chassis. That touchscreen’s usability is key, as tabbing through menus via buttons is onerous. It keeps the continuous heart-rate monitoring of Fitbit’s other top-end models. As with the Apple Watch, users can swap the Blaze’s band, with options including a silicon rubber sport strap ($30), a leather strap ($100), and a metal bracelet ($130). It's water resistant, which basically means it's splash-proof. Fitbit is offering the Blaze in three sizes: small, large, and extra-large.

The Blaze emphasizes personalization, so you can pop it out of its frame to go from a workout-friendly, sweat-resistant elastomer strap to a more stylish leather or stainless steel link band—though you will have to pay extra. The $199 Fitbit Blaze will come with a black, blue, or purple elastomer strap while the premium bands will sell separately as accessories. Leather bands come with stainless steel frames available in black, camel, or gray for $99.95, and the stainless steel link band and silver frame will cost $129.95. So if you want the metallic look, you will need to spend more, but it's still a good deal considering the Apple Watch Sport starts at $349.

Though the Blaze includes Fitbit’s high-end tracking systems, like its PurePulse heart rate tech and GPS compatibility, the company is clearly angling the Blaze as something that stays on a person’s wrist long after a morning workout. Its color touchscreen interface—the first ever from Fitbit—is fairly intuitive, and helps you sort relevant health information (heart rate, namely) in the gym or in the office.

Barclays, GoDaddy.com and BMC Software are just some of the latest corporate customers that Fitbit is adding to its roster, as it builds out a small but fast-growing corporate wellness business.

In just a day, I became addicted to the sleek app, which outlined my total steps, miles, calories burned, active minutes, and more, along with added features to track sleep, meal plans, water consumption (keep drinking that H2O, folks!), competitions with friends, and more. In fact, having a Fitbit has motivated me from going to around 7,000 steps a day, to averaging well over 15,000 steps a day.

That step counter has turned out to be pretty hot stuff. As I see it now that adorable little band of rubber has done much more than promote a healthier lifestyle. It's promoted a healthier relationship between Hubby and me -- a couple who celebrated our silver wedding anniversary this past August.

Everybody and their cat has a Fitbit, but did you know it does more than just track step counts or mileage? There are many other things a Fitbit can do, that you’ve probably never thought about.

Instead of saving all your activity for the 45 minutes you're at the gym, sneak in steps all day long. Invest in a pedometer or a Fitbit and try to hit at least 10,000 steps a day. This way, if you miss a workout, you’ll know you’ve already fit in some movement, and it won’t throw your progress totally off track.

From smart-watches to fitness trackers, it’s increasingly common to see people sporting wearable technology on their wrists. Fitbit is one of the leading brands in the fitness category and is experiencing 250% year-over-year growth. Their fitness-tracking technology lets Fitbit engage with their customers in very meaningful ways. It also gives users remarkable access to information to help them reach their goals. SmartTrack is not only an example of Park’s willingness to add value to the company’s current product line, instead of relying on a yearly hardware release cycle to introduce new features, but it also sets the Fitbit line apart from its competitors.

I've tested activity tracking devices and apps from Misfit, Garmin, Polar, Microsoft, and Apple (the Watch), among others. But Fitbit is still my favorite. With a Fitbit Charge HR ($150), you can track your heart rate along with exercise, steps, and sleep (sleep tracking starts and stops automatically).

Otherwise, you don't even need a Fitbit device to track your steps. The Fitbit app on some iOS, Android and Windows mobile devices does the trick thanks to its MobileTrack feature. And Fitbit's leaderboard, on which you can see how many steps your friends took during the past seven days, is a powerful motivator to keep moving.

Although the fitness tracker market is relatively new, Fitbit has come to quickly dominate the field. That's largely because Fitbit devices are easy to use, accurate and affordable. Still, within Fitbit's lineup are six different devices, ranging from the $59 Fitbit Zip to the $249 Fitbit Surge.

Fitbit is the brand that comes to mind when people think fitness trackers. In addition to being able to track steps, distance, calories burned, and sleep, the Charge HR features an optical heart-rate sensor that continuously checks your pulse.

An update to the Fitbit Surge will arrive later this week with a handful of improvements that will better help the watch compete with running watches from Garmin and Polar.

Starting Wednesday, the Fitbit Surge — a large, GPS- and heart rate-sensing Fitbit that's aimed at athletes and fitness enthusiasts — will get a software update that will introduce a variety of new running-related features called "Run Cues." The Surge will now send an alert to the wearer when he or she has reached a predetermined distance. Lap, distance, and heart rate information will be available with a glance at the watch face during a run, and the Surge will (finally) have a timer and a stopwatch.

The Surge will also get a battery boost: it will now last 10 hours in active mode, which means it's using GPS during a workout, compared with five-hour active battery life prior to the update.

Luckily, with companies like FitBit coming to the forefront to show in their advertising that "fit" doesn't have a singular definition, things are changing for the better.

Fitbit hasn't just changed how consumers view their own health goals, it's also changed the way HR views corporate wellness programs. The company’s finances are in good shape. Fitbit sports rising revenues, and growing profits.

Fitbit CEO James Park told CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" ahead of the IPO that he believes his company can stay competitive even as Apple and other electronics makers ramp up marketing for all-purpose wearables like the Apple Watch.

With summer vacation (and swimsuit season) coming up, we asked the folks at Fitbit to give us the rundown on how many steps these popular travel activities will earn you.

I'm definitely a fan of the Charge HR: it's heart rate-measuring capabilities — both during a workout and when I'm doing nothing at all — are useful, the app is simple and informative, and its design is subtle enough to wear with almost anything.

I love the always on touch screen that stays on the stat that I want to monitor. I love that I can easily track walks and hikes with the built in GPS and I really like the continuous heart rate monitor and automatic sleep tracking. I think the Fitbit Surge is the best tracker on the market.

With its built-in heart rate sensor and GPS features, the Surge is one of the most comprehensive fitness trackers on the market. And Fitbit has done a fairly good job of helping users make sense of all the extra data that the Surge tracks.

In short, the Fitbit Surge gets you most of the stuff you'll likely want in a smartwatch today... Strangely, the Fitbit Surge reminds me more of the original iPod concept then any high-profile Apple product currently in the market. It does a few things well and doesn't try to be everything to everyone.

Without a doubt, the new heart-rate tracking feature in the Charge HR and Surge is the best I’ve used in a fitness device. Instead of only logging my heart’s activity only when prompted or at seemingly sporadic times, Fitbit has figured out a way to measure my heart rate using an optical heart monitor every five seconds without causing battery life to suffer.

The Fitness gadget helps people train smarter all day long with built-in GPS that tracks distance, pace, elevation, route reviews, and split times; PurePulse to measure heart rate; and other metrics such as steps taken, calories burned, active minutes, floors climbed, and workout intensity.

It’s hard enough to sneak in a lunch break during the day — let alone a workout. But, for San Francisco-based wearable company Fitbit, midday exercise isn't a pipe dream, it's an important part of the culture.

That's why we asked five Fitbit employees to share their best tips for making your workday more active.

The Fitbit Surge sport watch will soon be able to track more than just your runs. Fitbit announced on Monday that an upcoming update will add tracking support for outdoor cycling.

An April update to the GPS fitness watch will let it track outdoor bike runs, so you'll know if you beat your previous best time or got your heart thumping on that uphill route. On the mobile app, you'll also have a history that shows whether or not that last ride was as intense as you thought it was.

Fitbit just rolled out a small but significant update that gives Fitbit users the ability to use multiple devices on the same account. A person could wear a Fitbit Flex to work and then a Fitbit Surge at the gym. You know, business during the day and party at night.

We loved the collaborators' release of the navy silicone bracelet with red hearts ($38) for Valentine's Day this year, and now the team has released an even better accessory: a double-wrap bracelet available in four different colors so your Fitbit will look chic no matter what you're wearing.

While the scale isn't anyone's favorite household accessory, you might actually be excited to step on this souped-up version.

Fitbit announced a trio of new fitness trackers back in the fall, and today, the company is making moves to improve how those gadgets tackle workouts. The wearable maker acquired FitStar, an app that serves up video-based personal training sessions on your mobile device.

Fitbit is buying FitStar, an app that specializes in crafting custom exercise programs based on a user's body data and activity history.

The two companies have been working together to integrate each other's services for a while, and in the wake of the deal those connections will deepen.

The Charge HR is a good tool for monitoring daily activity and moderate workouts, and for getting better insight into what your body is doing while you’re focused on, well, living life.

Fitbit is partnering with Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks that provides food to more than 46 million people. The goal of the partnership is for participants, wearing a Fitbit device, to burn 1 billion calories, and Fitbit will donate 1.5 million meals to Feeding America.

The newest kids in the fitness club includes the $249.95 Surge, which lets fitness fanatics make their workout a bit more fun with text alerts, caller ID, and music control. Kind of motivates you to hit the gym, right? The new collection also includes the $129.95 Fitbit Charge and $149.95 Fitbit Charge HR. Of course the new devices also come with technical features to help us all get into shape.

Although this device looks more like a watch than your typical fitness tracker, it's way more than that: On top of the base offerings of the Charge and Charge HR, the Surge adds in GPS and a few smart watch features. It can readily track multiple workout types, it'll show you incoming text messages, and you'll be able to control your music straight from the device. Now you'll be able to map your outdoor runs without logging into a new app or using another device.

Fitbit's Surge looks like a brilliant balance between fitness tracking and basic smartwatch features with a great battery life, too.

In early 2015, the Charge will be joined by the $150 Charge HR, which includes just about everything in the Charge but adds an embedded heartrate monitor. Which, in turn, allows the Charge HR to keep tabs your calorie burn even when you aren't clearly taking steps by tracking the intensity of your workout.

Monday, Fitbit announced three new fitness wristbands for data-hungry gym rats, runners, or anyone who wants a little more insight into their workout.

Fitbit promises 5 days of battery life while the Charge HR monitors heart rate continuously, even during sleep. Its continuous all-day tracking is something most heart rate-enabled fitness bands don't do.

Fitbit also today announced the integration of Microsoft’s Cortana voice-activation feature to allow verbal logs on its devices when linked to Windows Phone applications.

The company has packed the highest end model, the Surge, with eight sensors that continuously monitor health statistics and the wearer’s location to create a comprehensive log of activity throughout the day.

Fitbit fans, rejoice! The company known for its fitness trackers has released not just one, but three new devices. In a blog post, Fitbit says the innovative activity- and sleep-tracking products are meant "to help reach everyday, active or performance health and fitness goals.

The Surge is big addition for Fibit. It’s more smartwatch than activity tracker and is clearly designed to appeal to fitness fanatics. The Surge also has a heart-rate monitor and built-in GPS capabilities that can track pace, distance, and elevation.

I’ve been using the Fitbit Charge (fitbit.com) to track my sleep patterns, and it’s made me realize that I don’t sleep through the night without interruption, so that’s a problem I need to address (maybe stop drinking coffee earlier in the day, or invest in a new pillow?)

She is wearing jeans and hiking boots — the lightweight kind that work for bumming around a city, or anyway around this city — and no coat, and the Fitbit.

All told, the Surge is one of the best devices out there for athletes looking for a feature-packed fitness tracker.

Fitbit once again masters tracking with the Surge. Not only does it count steps, calories burned, distance traveled, stairs climbed and sleep cycle, it lets you call out types of workouts, like running, hiking, pilates, spinning and so on.

Fitbit's early fitness trackers were reliable for keeping tabs on steps, but the Surge is the company's first proper smartwatch, and it has some impressive features, including GPS, an altimeter, and a heart-rate sensor. The backlit touchscreen will display text messages and incoming calls, but most exciting, Fitbit promises seven days of use on a single charge – considerably more juice than other smart watches we tested.

For the first time, it offers runners and other exercise enthusiasts the more advanced functionality they expect from a GPS watch. Because it's in the Fitbit family, Surge users get all the benefits that come with the best fitness-tracking app on the market, such as a supportive community and integration with dozens of other apps and services.

When it comes to fitness, you never want to leave the house unprepared. Luckily, Tory Burch and Fitbit know how to pair a fitness tracker with a cocktail dress — an accessory collection, released last year, that includes a pendant and bracelets with compartments for your Fitbit Flex tracker ($100, sold separately). The Fitbit was literally the entire way I did it. I did it by walking. I got a thing...like a little message/email saying, "you've walked Japan"…and that's not even all of what I've walked…steps is like the Fitbit way…and I've averaged 20,000 steps a day, so that's how I did it.

What I love about [the Fitbit Charge] is not only is it easy to use, you put it on your wrist, but this also helps track and monitor your sleep as well. It even has a function that wakes you up with a vibration, so if you like to get up a little bit earlier, and your spouse perhaps has a later time, you're not gonna be disturbed. So this is a great all-in-one fitness tracker.

There are a lot of fitness tracking devices out there, but the Fitbit is our favorite. Fitbits come in a few varieties and they range from a simple clip-on tracker to a more advanced wristband.

It looks like real jewelry, so, unlike the athletic band, it blends seamlessly with a workday look.

Know someone who is looking to get in shape this holiday season? Fitbit's latest product, Charge, will do the trick. The fitness tracker offers real-time activity stats, sleep monitoring, seamless syncing, caller ID, and serious battery life (seven to 10 days). We couldn't think of a better, uh, fit for the techie health nut on your list.

If you're shopping for someone who's focused on results, consider a Fitbit. The trackers cover a range of capabilities and prices, so you can find one that best fits your budget. For $59.95, you can snag the Fitbit Zip, which tracks the wearer's steps, distance and calories burned. We're glad to see that the two trackers that really epitomized the idea of fitness tracker as fashion accessory have gotten more options.

Whether it be a new pair of cool shoes, a new piece of workout tech (like the new Fitbit Charge) a new workout or a new piece of equipment, having something to make your workouts feel (or look) different can sometimes re-awaken your workout vibe.

The Charge HR adds only one feature, but it's an important one -- a heart rate monitor. The wrist-worn LED pulse tracker might not be quite as accurate as a chest strap, but it's certainly more comfortable and more convenient... The highly competitive fitness tracker arena is becoming even more so with market-leader Fitbit's announcement Monday of three new wrist-based activity trackers.

It’s one giant step past step-counting. With new key new features such as continuous heart-rate monitoring and touch screens, as well as an improvement to the already slick design, Fibtbit’s latest trackers offer lots of new features for fitness fans.

[PurePulse] is definitely an attractive feature — while some fitness trackers monitor heart rate while you're going for a run, it's less common for a device to track it at all times. This creates a huge pool of information that can reveal a lot about your health — sometimes you're resting heart rate is more telling than it during high intensity times.

Two devices — the Charge HR and the Surge — include some powerful new technology that should allow users to get a picture of their health at all hours of the day.

When I spoke with Harley Pasternak, one of the most in-demand trainers in Hollywood, he said the first thing I needed to do was to get a Fitbit to measure my daily steps. To maintain weight, he advises his clients to move at least 10,000 steps a day (along with strength and core work); to lose, 14,000 steps a day. “This is a lifestyle commitment,” he told me. “And these people understand the importance of exercise, nutrition, and especially rest. Lack of sleep makes you less apt to engage in physical activity and more prone to making poor eating choices.”

On the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, author David Rose touts Fitbit as "a way to keep everybody healthy." Rose is the author of the new book, "Enchanted Objects."

The cast of 'Married With Children' got together for a special reunion featuring the cast of the original show. Christina Applegate was spotted with her Fitbit: "The fact that your [Katey Sagal's] body is better now than it was then makes me sick, because I’m wearing a Fitbit trying to get rid of all my baby weight.” Go Christina!

Fitbit, the Jolly Rancher-sized fitness tracker that's worn as either a bracelet or a clip-on, has been collaborating with luxury brand Tory Burch. Together, they have created a small golden cage for the Fitbit that doubles as a pendant for a necklace, and a similar Fitbit cage for the wrist, in the form of a hinged metal bracelet, which retails for $195.

At the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year it was clear Microsoft had a problem: exciting new hardware like Pebble, Nest, and various fitness bands were not fully supported on Windows. Companies appeared to be ignoring Microsoft’s platforms in favor of iOS and Android. Thanks to Windows Phone 8.1, that might be about to change. Bluetooth support is greatly improved with the 8.1 update, and Fitbit is the first to take advantage of it with a new mobile syncing app for Windows Phone 8.1.

Fitbit’s Windows Phone 8.1 app will be available in the Store today, and just like its iOS and Android counterparts it will automatically sync Fitbit activity wirelessly. The app has real-time and historical data, with graphs and progress tracking. You can also log more than 350,000 different foods to keep count of more than just activity. The introduction of a Windows Phone app now means Fitbit supports nearly 100 mobile devices, with 72 Android, 9 iOS, and 17 Windows devices. You'll need both Windows Phone 8.1 and the Lumia Cyan update to use the Fitbit app fully, but both are rolling out to devices at the moment.

Fitbit (see disclosure), however, is deviating from the trend. A Windows Phone 8.1 version of the app is set to debut in Microsoft’s app store on Monday (here’s the link though the app wasn’t live at publication time), offering direct Bluetooth synchronization and the full set of features offered on the Android and iOS versions. So why is Fitbit taking the leap to Windows? When a startup gets bigger it starts looking into expanding its potential market. At that point Windows start making more sense, especially if you’re eyeballing Europe where WP8 penetration is higher thanks to Nokia’s former presence.

If you've been holding back on buying a Windows Phone because you weren't able to use your Fitbit with it, that excuse is officially gone. Fitbit is launching a version of its app for Windows Phone on Monday, letting users sync and share their fitness data via a native app. Fitbit for Windows Phone pairs with a wearable activity tracker like the Fitbit Flex, keeping track of the wearer's activity. When you launch the app, you'll be able to see how many steps you've walked, the number of calories burned and — assuming you wear it to bed — sleep quality, too.

If you've wanted to use activity-tracking wearables that pair with your phone, you've typically had to use Android or iOS. Windows Phone has some third-party apps that can fill in, but they're imperfect at best. As of today, though, an official solution is at hand -- Fitbit has released its own Windows Phone 8.1 app. You can now sync trackers like the Flex, One and Zip to your Microsoft-powered device to get real-time step and sleep monitoring, complete with a step counter on your home screen if you set up the Live Tile. Other Fitbit fundamentals are also here, including food logging, leaderboards and messaging.

We've just lost yet another excuse to put off getting into shape: Fitbit is coming to Windows Phone 8.1 devices.The app is near-identical to its iOS and Android incarnations: pair your smartphone over Bluetooth with a Fitbit device like the Flex or the One, and your data will sync automatically. You can then use the app to monitor progress on your fitness goals by checking in on the steps you've taken and the calories you've burned, or log how much food and water you've had today.

While we didn’t mind the athletic look of the original wristbands, these designs add an undeniable chic-factor to wearing a fitness monitor. The accessories are intended for the Flex band, which features a removable tracker that can be easily integrated into the various pieces. While there aren’t any future designer collaborations planned at this time, we'd be excited to see Fitbit roll out more accessories with fitness-loving designers such as Norma Kamali and Cynthia Rowley. Burch has also announced that she’s planning an activewear line with yoga, running, golf, and tennis apparel for 2015.

"Wearable technology is an exciting new category," said the designer in a statement. "We’re thrilled to be partnering with Fitbit to offer a unique collection of accessories that transform the fitness tracker into a stylish piece of jewelry that is versatile enough to go from day to evening.” The collection includes a $175 brass pendant, a $195 brass bracelet, and a $38 silicone bracelet, featuring Burch's signature prints. The accessories will be available on Burch's site and in her stores, and on Fitbit.com.

While fitness trackers become increasingly popular, their bands have developed a reputation for having a cheap, rubbery look. To make the technology nighttime ready and more like jewelry than something you'd wear to the gym, Tory Burch worked with the company to develop four accessories that house the Fitbit's core, which pops out of the wristband. The core is where the device houses its sensors that track activity, sleep cycle and so on.

The Tory accessories, including the colored logo bands and metal necklace seen above, are $38 and $175, respectively, and the cuff, seen below, retails for $195 (the FitBit tracker is not included). You can preorder them all on the Tory Burch or FitBit sites, as well as in some stores, and then sit back and wait—products will begin shipping next month.

The Burchified accessories collection includes a brass-metal hinge bracelet with open fretwork ($195), a silicone printed bracelet with a cutout T for Tory in her signature blue and pink ($38), and a brass pendant necklace ($198). The Fitbit Flex tracks steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, minutes active, and time spent sleeping, and it's sold separately from Burch’s jewelry, which acts as a snood for the tracker. In a statement, Burch called the pieces “versatile enough to go from day to evening.”

I look back on the days I averaged only thirty thousand steps, and think, Honestly, how lazy can you get? When I hit thirty-five thousand steps a day, Fitbit sent me an e-badge, and then one for forty thousand, and forty-five thousand. Now I’m up to sixty thousand, which is twenty-five and a half miles.

The FLEX is a game-changer, and if your pops could use a subtle message to move away from the couch this year, it’ll work wonders. What appears to be a simple wristband is actually crammed with some mind-blowing tech—it tracks your steps, calories burned, the distance you’ve traveled, how many hours you’ve slept, even the quality of your sleep. And it presents all of that information in a simple, gorgeously designed interface that you can access anytime on your iPhone or desktop. Pair it with the Fitbit Aria—a wi-fi enabled scale—and it’ll sync his weight and body-fat percentage to help him keep track of his weight-loss goals.

We LOVE this slim, stylish device to track your activity levels and calories burned. It’s brilliant! Since it syncs wirelessly to your computer or smartphone, it’s also a fun way to challenge your friends to stay active and keep each other accountable!

Along with the Flex and the Aria, to get the most out of your experience, there is a smart-phone app and a fantastic web interface, and everything is integrated together. I highly recommend them. Want to lose yourself in weight and fitness data? Fitbit has you covered.

I wear it all the time, so I don’t have to remember to set it up, or put it on every day. Being part of my home network means that Jenny and I are linked to each other, and our Aria, so we never have to go out of our way to update our information.

This year, I got a Fitbit. You walk 10,000 steps and it sends you an email saying, “That’s great! A lot of people don’t walk that far. Do you think you can walk 5,000 more steps?” And so I say, “I bet I can!” A week ago, I walked 60,000 steps. That’s 25.5 miles. I’m completely obsessed. It’s like a sickness; I’ve been Fitbit-ten. It will be the summer of the Fitbit because it can’t go on. It just can’t.

A Wall Street Journal reporter recently asked three Olympic hopefuls to wear a Fitbit for a week—while they were in full training mode—and then hand them over for a little analysis. Fitbit has teamed with the designer Tory Burch to make new trackers that look like stylish jewelry.

This hack from Netflix’s internal Hack Day uses the data from a Fitbit to determine when you’ve fallen asleep while watching a streaming movie, and pauses your flick at that spot.
